چکیده

An analysis of SNIa events in early type galaxies from the Cappellaro et al. (1999) database provides conclusive evidence that the rate of type Ia Supernovae (SNe) in radio-loud galaxies is about 4 times higher than the rate measured in radio-quiet galaxies, i.e. SNIa-rate(radio− loud galaxies) = 0.43 −0.14h 2 75 SNu as compared to SNIa-rate(radio− quiet galaxies) = 0.11 −0.03h 2 75 SNu. The actual value of the enhancement is likely to be in the range ∼ 2− 7 (P∼ 10). This finding puts on robust empirical grounds the results obtained by Della Valle & Panagia (2003) on the basis of a smaller sample of SNe. We analyse the possible causes of this result and conclude that the enhancement of SNIa explosion rate in radio-loud galaxies has the same origin as their being strong radio sources, but there is no causality link between the two phenomena. We argue that repeated episodes of interaction and/or mergers of early type galaxies with dwarf companions, on times-scale of about 1 Gyr, are responsible for inducing both strong radio activity observed in ∼14% of early type galaxies and to supply an adequate number of SNIa progenitors to the stellar population of ellipticals. The rate and the origin of type Ia supernovae in radiogalaxies

An analysis of type Ia supernova (SNIa) events in early type galaxies from Evans et al. (1989) database provides strong evidence that the rate of type Ia supernovae (SNe) in radio-loud galaxies is about 6 times higher than the rate measured in radio-quiet galaxies, i.e. SNIarate(radio − loud galaxies) = 0.47 −0.15 h 2 50 SNe per century and per 10 L ⊙ (SNU) as compared to SNIa-rate(radio− quiet...

The Role of Type Ia Supernovae in Chemical Evolution I: Lifetime of Type Ia Supernovae and Galactic Supernova Rates

We construct a new model of Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia), based on the single degenerate scenario, taking account of the metallicity effect of the white dwarf (WD) wind and the mass-stripping effect on the binary companion star. Our model naturally predicts that the SN Ia lifetime distribution spans a range of 0.1 − 20 Gyr with the double peaks at ∼ 0.1 and 1 Gyr. While the present SN Ia rate in...

Luminosity Functions of Type Ia Supernovae and their Host Galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey

The sample of 137 low-redshift type Ia supernovae with 0.05 ≤ z ≤ 0.3 obtained from the SDSS-II Supernova Survey for the southern equatorial stripe of 300 square degrees is used to derive the luminosity functions of type Ia supernovae and of their host galaxies in the gri passbands. We show that the luminosity function of type Ia supernova host galaxies matches well with that of galaxies in the...

Quantum model of homogeneous and isotropic universe predicts logarithmic-law dependence of coordinate distance to source on redshift z which is in good agreement with type Ia supernovae and radio galaxies observations for the redshift range z = 0.01 − 1.8. Comparison with phenomenological models with dark energy in the form of cosmological constant and without dark energy component is made. Flu...

Jet Triggered Type Ia Supernovae in Radio-galaxies?

We report the serendipitous discovery of a supernova (SN) in the nearby radio-galaxy 3C 78. Observations obtained with the STIS spectrograph on board the Hubble Space Telescope show, at a distance of 0.54 arcsec (300 pc) from the galaxy nucleus, a second bright source, not present in previous images. As this source was fortuitously covered by the spectrograph slit its spectrum was obtained and ...
